In last week’s column, I mentioned upcoming improvements to the Manotick Library which necessitated its closure from August 21st until September 1st. Please note that the closure has been postponed and will occur toward the end of September instead.
Rideau Valley Drive South Update
As you are aware, construction work for the rehabilitation of the roadway and storm sewer along Rideau Valley Drive South is nearing completion with much of the concrete works and base course asphalt paving recently completed. In order to facilitate the contractor’s installation of a large storm water management structure just south of Old Wellington Street, a full lane closure along a portion of Rideau Valley Drive South is required.
The lane closure is required due to the size of the structure, the requirements for the contractor’s equipment, protection of existing utilities and worker and public safety. The full lane closure will extend over a length of approximately 40m from the south side of the intersection of Rideau Valley Drive South and Old Wellington Street southerly. One traffic lane will remain open at all times and will be controlled by flagpersons during the contractor’s working hours. During non-working hours, signage will direct vehicles to yield to oncoming traffic. The sidewalk along the east side of Rideau Valley Drive South will also remain open at all times.
Please note that the Kars General Store will be accessible at all times. The lane closure is currently scheduled to be in-place from August 22nd to September 23rd. The roadway will be re-opened to traffic as soon as the Contractor has completed the work.
Clapp Lane Construction Update
Many of you have likely noticed that the City of Ottawa is conducting work around the cenotaph at Clapp Lane and Dickinson Street. The work involves the renewal of the retaining wall abutting the cenotaph. The retaining wall must undergo rehabilitation in order to extend its service life. Work will involve maintaining the displaced stones in place and filling voids with non-shrink grout; reconstruction of buttresses with existing stones and new stone as required; and repointing of stone masonry. The work is planned to continue until late September 2016.
