In a recent column, Councillor Moffatt announced plans to get out into the community and work with local businesses - in a very literal way:
“In recent weeks, I came up with an idea to get involved with our local businesses in order for me to learn more about what they do on any given day and to also help promote them throughout Rideau-Goulbourn. The intent is that for one day a month, I would be employed by a local business and then write about the experience and the business in my column. To those local businesses, please consider this as my request to work for you for a day.
Some of you may be wondering what qualifies me to work for you, so let me give you a glimpse of my resume. I cut lawn at D.K. Dods, washed dishes at Strathmere, and tended bar at Rideau View Country Club. I’ve also worked for Alcatel, Tommy & Lefebvre, Golftown, the Brookstreet Hotel, Enbridge, and now the City of Ottawa. I am a quick learner and would be an asset to your team for that given day. On the flip side, if I’m horrible at the job, I’m only there for a day!
I think this would be a fun way for me to get to know some local businesses and in return, I’ll try to let many more people get to know your business. So, I am available for hire and will spend one day each month at a different business for the length of my term. If anyone out there wants to put me to work, please let me know.”
