Column: 283 transit survey and upcoming events

Last week, I told you all about the Richmond-Munster Transit Committee.  The survey is still available at www.rideaugoulbourn.ca and is open to all residents in Richmond and Munster.  Whether you are a transit user or not, please fill out this survey.  The purpose is to help guide the future of transit in Richmond and Munster.  Where should the route run?  How often should buses come?  If you aren’t a user, what would make the 283 more attractive to you?  All of these questions are important to us and we want to hear from you.  Please take the time and have your say on transit.  Thank you!

Here are some great local events this weekend.  Pop by and say hello and I’ll be doing the same.  Well, let’s be honest, I won’t be hanging out at the Hazardous Waste Depot but the other events will be fun!

North Gower Farmers Market
The North Gower Farmers’ Market opens its doors for its 18th season on May 28, 2011.  The Market is open every Saturday, 8:30am to 1:00 pm from now until Thanksgiving, rain or shine.  They offer seasonal, local produce, plants, homemade foods as well as baking, meat and eggs.  Many talented artisans have unique handmade creations such as pottery, art, jewelry and much more.  The Market canteen has breakfast and lunch available. Come visit Rideau-Goulbourn’s only weekly Farmers Market located at 2397 Roger Stevens Dr, North Gower.  For more information go to www.ngfarmersmarket.com or call 613-489-9794.

Ottawa Kennel Club Dog Show
This weekend is the Ottawa Kennel Club Dog Show taking place at the Richmond Agricultural Fairgrounds.  The show runs all weekend from May 27-29 and admission is only $3 per person or $7 per carload.  Visit www.ottawakennelclub.ca for more info and to find out which day the Free BBQ is on!

Household Hazardous Waste Depot
If it’s corrosive, flammable or poisonous it’s hazardous waste. These types of products contaminate water and landfills and should never be poured down the drain or put out with your regular garbage.

To help you dispose of these products safely the City of Ottawa operates several one-day Household Hazardous Waste Depots for City of Ottawa residents only.

Please visit the Waste Management site on Carp Road on May 29th from 9:00am to 4:00pm to drop off your household hazardous waste.
