PUBLIC NOTICE: Fernbank Road at Shea Road - Intersection Modifications

The City of Ottawa is proposing to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Fernbank Road and Shea Road. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012.

This intersection is located approximately 1.5 km east of the intersection of Fernbank Road and Stittsville Main Street. Shea Road meets Fernbank Road at two off-set T-intersections, and the intersection currently operates with stop signs on Shea Road. This intersection handles moderate traffic volumes and the traffic conditions have met the minimum criteria for the installation of traffic control signals.

The City of Ottawa has reviewed the operations at this intersection and has recommended a single-lane roundabout as the preferred method of traffic control. In addition to the construction of a roundabout, the proposed work includes the realignment of Shea Road north of Fernbank Road and the addition of pedestrian facilities at the intersection. Street lighting and paved shoulders will also be provided at the intersection..

This project is being undertaken to improve the intersection’s overall operation.
