Solid Waste Collection Service Review

Due to a high level of interest in the City’s review of residential solid waste collection services, the City is expanding public engagement and consultation in advance of the Environment Committee and Council considering staff recommendations on residential solid waste collection options.

Technical Briefing for Council and Media

March 30 – The report with staff recommended service levels for next collection contract, including financial analysis of various options, will be released publicly, accompanied by a technical briefing for Council and media. Details of the technical briefing are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, March 30, 2011
Time: 3:00 to 4:00 pm
Place: Champlain Room, City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West

Further Public Consultation

A City website seeking public comment on the recommended service level will also be launched.

April 5 and 6 – Public consultation sessions on the recommended service level. Four Open Houses will be held between 4:30 pm and 8:00 pm, as follows:

  • April 5 - City Hall and Manotick Arena; and

  • April 6 - Kanata Recreation Centre and Shenkman Arts Centre (Orleans).

We will post further details about these public consultations as soon as they are released.

The format of each open house will consist of informative boards detailing the status quo compared to the recommended level of service. Staff will be available at each location to answer questions. Residents will be given the opportunity to provide feedback on which service level they prefer and why.

April 11 – Special Environment Committee meeting for public delegations, debate and Committee recommendation on the staff report.

April 13 – City Council
